The tragic loss of a young labradoodle named Ollie, who was fatally mauled at a Massachusetts boarding facility in 2020, revealed dangerous gaps in oversight within the animal boarding industry. In response, Massachusetts passed Ollie’s Law on September 20, 2024, a landmark act that Requires Boarding Kennels and Dog Daycares to be Licensed, Regularly Inspected, and Held to Strict Safety Standards.

Under the law, the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) will oversee Staff to Animal Ratios, Safe Group Sizes, Emergency Planning, Staff Training, Insurance Requirements, Injury Reporting, and Animal Care Protocols to prevent future tragedies.

By establishing accountability and uniform regulations, Ollie’s Law ensures a safer, more compassionate environment for dogs entrusted to boarding facilities, honoring Ollie’s memory while protecting countless others.

*At Whiskers, Paws and Love®, we wholeheartedly support Ollie’s Law and the protections it brings to animals and their families. We believe every companion animal deserves to be safe, cared for, and treated with dignity when away from home. Ollie’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of why strong safeguards are essential, and we stand in solidarity with advocates and lawmakers who made this vital change possible.
