Carnival Corporation is the world’s largest cruise operator and parent company of brands such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, and Seabourn, has announced it will no longer offer shore excursions involving captive elephant rides or bathing activities.

This decision places Carnival in alignment with over 50 global travel companies - including Tripadvisor, Airbnb, Intrepid Travel, Booking.com, Expedia Group, and Royal Caribbean - that have pledged to exclude elephant-related experiences due to concerns about animal welfare and the safety of both visitors and animals.

In addition, organizations like PETA have called on the Tourism Authority of Thailand to implement a nationwide ban on elephant rides at tourist sites, advocating for greater protection of captive elephants.

*Whiskers, Paws and Love® wholeheartedly supports this shift away from animal based entertainment and encourages other travel providers to adopt similar ethical policies. We commend Carnival for embracing responsible tourism practices that prioritize the well being of all animals and we remain committed to supporting efforts that raise awareness about humane tourism and the profound impacts of animal exploitation on both animal and human communities.
